John Shone

Born in the mining and industrial area of North Wales, I was a product of the Welsh love of the arts and the pragmatism of industry.
I was a story teller long before I ever thought of becoming a writer. In my third school year, I was an eight year old with an overactive imagination, telling stories I made up, to my classmates during rainy recesses.
I excelled in Art and had a modicum of success in English, English Literature and the Arts but pragmatism won; so I did what any good Welsh son would do and went to technical college: thus embarking on a love hate relationship with things mechanical, which eventually brought me to Vancouver.
I have always been able to see stories in my head, which sometimes caused my mind to wander. I used to put it down to attention span deficit or some form of digestive disturbance. Nevertheless I have continued to write, sometimes sporadically, over the years. Sometimes just to get the idea out of my head.
I enjoy science fiction because it allows one to expound on a story or a theory without the constraints of known things and known places and to amplify an idea. I like a good story, and that is what I attempt to write, a simple tale of one possibility along the path we follow.
